Boldly going nowhere?

Tom Friedman of the New York Times writes of the pothole-ridden information superhighway that is Bangalore. And he's of the opinion that there is some hope for all of us, after all. Read here.(needs free registration).

And in other, insanely exciting news, the Times of India reports that the Maharashtra state government has dropped its long-standing case against Tuff - for its infamous ad featuring Madhu Sapre, Milind Soman and the Python (and little else). Is a more liberal state round the corner? Apparently not.

I am a regular reader of Thomas Friedman's articles at NY Times. But, he gives a feeling of repeating himself. He has used this pot-hole analogy many a time before. But, am a big fan of his writing and was very happy to have attended his speech on his book The world is flat here in Washington D.C. Impressive speaker as well!

But, the most important thing to garner from this particular Op-Ed article is the fact that no US president or VP has ever visited bangalore! Hmmm .. Is America lagging behind?

I had written a blog about the state of roads a few days back. Check it out when you find time. Here's the link.

Hey there...

I happened to "stumble" across your blog, inasmuch as it is possible to do that in a wireless world (wink), and I just wanted to drop in a comment and a question.

Comment:
Cool blog you've got here. Your choice of "explosive literature" seems eerily similar to mine, too.

Question:
Well, questions, actually.

1. Did you do your graduation from Nanyang, Singapore? Do you know one Mr. Nripan Mathews? I'm Nripan's classmate from school.

2. I'm in the class of 2005-2007 at IIM-B too. Talk about coincidence!

Keep up the great content...

Regards from,
A future batchmate at IIMB,
Ramesh

Raman,
You are right. Friedman's article as a political observer are ususally bang on target, but when he veers towards economic issues, he seems to be inviting a lot of flak. Especially from the "old-school" European establishment, quite succinctly argued by the interviewer on BBC Hard Talk. From an Indian point of view however, "The World is Flat" seems to have been pretty well received- case in point Shekhar Gupta playing the perfect sidekick to Friedman in the latest episode of Walk the Talk.
I'll post my views on the state of roads in our country as a comment to your article.

Ramesh,
Wow, The World is Flat isn't it? And it's a yes to both your questions! I did graduate from Nanyang and Nripan is a very good friend of mine. And you'll be joining IIMB! Now, that's a coincidence! BTW, where are you from, or would you rather keep the suspense up till we meet on Jun 27th :)?
Thanks for all the encouragement, and do keep dropping by here.

Cheers
Venkat
